At the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain gave India a victory. Lovlina Borgohain won the gold medal in the 75 kg division, while Nikhat Zareen took first place in the 50 kg division. After Lovlina Borgohain’s 5-2 triumph over Australia’s Caitlin Parker in the championship match, Nikhat Zareen defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam 5-0 to win India’s third gold medal of the competition. Nitu Ghanghas (48 kg) and Saweety Boora (81 kg), two Indian wrestlers, both won gold in their respective weight classes on Saturday.

Zareen has excelled as a champion and has frequently brought honor to India, said PM Modi in a tweet congratulating her.

With this triumph, Nikhat joined boxing superstar Mary Kom, who has won a competition record of six gold medals, as the only other Indian female fighter to earn two gold medals in the World Championships.
